by Sarah Kirkland Snider, featuring Carla Kihlstedt and Firebird Ensemble

December 3rd, 2015
Boston, MA
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Snider's compositions for the song cycle Penelope have been described by Pitchfork as "gorgeous...a hauntingly vivid psychological portrait, one that explores a dark scenario with a light, almost quizzical touch, finding poetic resonances everywhere." Inspired by Homer's epic poem, the Odyssey, Penelope is a meditation on memory, identity, and what it means to come home.

Performances of Jon Deak's Eeyore has a Birthday

This concert program is a thrilling and delightful musical setting of A.A.Milne‚Äôs story Eeyore Has a Birthday from the Winnie-the-Pooh series, one of the most delightful literary collections for children. Composed by Jon Deak, each instrument assumes a role in the story; the ever-mournful Eeyore is personified by the viola; the gastronomically oriented Pooh Bear by the double bass; and the eager, bumbling Piglet by the piano.

This program is presented in collaboration with Young Audiences of Massachusetts (YAMA) -an organization dedicated to bringing live music to school children in the Greater Boston area. These performances are private in-school events scheduled through YAMA (Young Audiences of Massachusetts).
